Blending mode controls how the layer interacts with other layers. For example, the blending mode "multiply" looks at the color of your layer and multiplies the base color by the blend color. You go to File > Save As
Choose to save it as a .PSD so it can retain all the layers.
Then if you need to, save it as a .JPG if you need to email or put it up on the web.
