Blending mode controls how the layer interacts with other layers. For example, the blending mode "multiply" looks at the color of your layer and multiplies the base color by the blend color. Excellent tutorial! The use of HPF was clearly explained as was the effect of the various blend modes. Shame about the terrible image - no offence to the subject - used. It could never benefit from any amount of sharpening high pass or otherwise.
